That is “fake news” right there. Facebook is rampant with hate groups. Not as bad as some other social platforms, but hardly the beacon of tolerance that Zuckerberg would like to pretend it is. I have to admit one thing here; 2 billion unique users on a daily basis. There isn’t anything on the face of the planet today that can claim that many interactive users in a single day. Facebook is unique in size and scope in the world of today, but it is horribly understaffed and lacking in oversight.
…and I’m not sure that I would want either corporate America or the US government to suggest any fixes for Facebook. Because I’m not entirely sure that either business or the government have a clue how to fix the problems Facebook has. But somebody is going to have to do something. Here’s hoping Facebook figures out how to reinvent itself yet again, because that may be the only way it saves itself.
May 5th, 2019. Facebook can finally state that they don’t allow hate groups (as they define them) on Facebook, having kicked several of the more prominent haters on the platform off of it. We’ll just have to see how that works out.
